Bike FAQ
Will altitude really affect my vacation?
Many people coming from lower altitudes struggle with adjusting such a high elevation. You will notice shortness of breath, tiredness, and in some cases altitude sickness. Altitude sickness consists of flu-like symptoms. The last thing you will want to do is over exert yourself in your first few days and ruin the rest of your vacation. Start out slowly and allow yourself to acclimate.
Drink plenty of water.
Get lots of rest.
Take aspirin (or any anti-inflammatory) to thin the blood and increase blood flow.
Avoid caffeine and alcohol.

What type of weather should we expect?
The weather in the mountains constantly changes, and changes quickly. Even with clear skies and warm sunny weather in the morning you can expect a shower or thunderstorm in the afternoon. Be prepared with extra layers and wind resistant jackets. If you get caught in a storm, watch for lightening. If lightening does occur, stay out of open spaces and make sure you’re below tree line. Keep in mind that for every thousand feet of elevation gain the temperature will drop about 5.5 degrees. Additionally, ultraviolet radiation increases about 26% at elevations between 5,000 and 14,000ft. (Breckenridge is at 9,600ft.) With these factors in mind, be sure to pack for all types of weather conditions, and make sure that you bring plenty of sunscreen.
Are water bottles provided?
We provide a water bottle (for you to keep) with every rental. We also sell Camelback products at the shop.
Hydration is essential. The best way to help you acclimate and adjust to the dryness is to keep yourself hydrated, especially if you are engaging in physical activity. Water helps get oxygen into your system faster. Always carry plenty of water with you and be sure to drink as much as possible. While out biking also be sure to bring high energy snacks and be sure to eat foods high in carbohydrates and low in fat.
Are there places to stop along the bike path?
There are a number of places to pull over and rest along the bike path.
